Saudi Building Code Center (SBCC) is an independent government center with legal personality and administrative and financial independence. Its Board of Directors is chaired by Ministry of Municipalities and Housing the Minister of Municipalities and Housing.
The center is the legislative authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the minimum accepted building codes and criteria. It cooperates with relevant bodies responsible for implementation to develop methodologies for applying the requirements of the Building Code.
The center's membership includes representatives from ten government authorities, in addition to two members from the private sector with expertise and specialization.
The origins of the Center date back to 1421H (2000), when the Council of Ministers issued Resolution No. (7b/3230) dated 09/03/1421H to form the National Committee for Saudi Building Code, which worked on developing the Code, enriching its content, and facilitating its implementation in construction projects.
In 1446H (2025), the Council of Ministers issued Resolution No. (656) dated 04/09/1446H, converting the National Committee for Saudi Building Code into an independent center named Saudi Building Code Center, to continue its role in regulating and developing the Code, enhancing the quality of the engineering and construction sector, improving the competencies of engineers in the Kingdom, and evaluating innovative building requirements to contribute to achieving a safe and sustainable urban environment.
